March's Butterfly Flitty Friend

Let's begin with The Queen ~

Here in South Texas, we are blessed to be home to the Queens year-round. They are often confused with the Monarch Butterfly. They live seasonally all over the world. They live in various habitats, and their favorite plant is the Milkweed, which grows prolifically here. Some say that birds can learn to dislike (read, do not eat) the Queen Butterflies because the Milkweed that the Queens eat makes them not very tasty!

They grow to about 3” across, with no difference in the male or female size. The coloring is slightly different between the two, tho’.

You can find Queens in open fields, out in the monte of South Texas or in your own backyard. Most days, you can see these beauties feasting on the Milkweed in The Lamb’s Loom backyard!
