Meet the Golden-Fronted Woodpecker!
South Texas seems to be their mid point, as they are spread from Nicaragua up to southern Oklahoma.
Here in the Rio Grande Valley they have an abundance of habitat to choose from.
A backyard habitat offers them the choice of a few bugs in the leaf litter of your yard, whole corn from a feeder, or even a bit of outside dog food treats! Here, this male is checking out an orange and will let his family know to leave your home's eaves alone and hop on over to the fruit!
We've seen the Golden-Fronted Woodpeckers with the gold, but so ya know...the adult male is the one with the extra pop of pink atop his head!
