First Fall Ladybug!

Well, for our October Ladybug we didn’t have to look far…this little one flew right in to the backyard of The Lamb’s Loom and landed on Barbara’s car! Meet the Ecochomus Childreni.

This Ladybug only lives in Louisiana and Southern Texas. They are actually quite little, measuring 2.5mm to 3.8mm. We can attest to the fact that they move really quickly!  (blurry picture explanation 😉) These ladybugs are distinguished from others by their small size, yellow-reddish body tone and their solid black head coloring.

They love to eat scale off our Queen Sago Palms and other small bugs!

*The specific epithet 'childreni' honors John George Children (1777–1852), an English chemist and zoologist who was a founding member of the Zoological Society of London.
