Our September Make-Along is the delicate looking Duranta!
It is not a native, but it sure loves it here in South Texas. The blooms are very small and look very dainty, but it is a hardy plant down here. They come in a variety of colors and make a good addition to any yard. This one is the pretty deep purple bloom. Durantas grow in long grape-like “clumps” and are loved by a variety of our birds and butterflies. The Chachalacas, among others, will climb all over the Duranta eating up both the blooms and the fruit!
With our temperate winters, this is a great one to stay green all “winter” and continue to grown year-round. The one pictured here is about 15 feet tall!
