For May, we are heading down to South Padre Island, where you can often times see the Roseate Spoonbill!

These beauties are here, in coastal Texas and Gulf Coast regions, and range all the way down to South America! That amazing "spoon" on their bill helps them push through the wet sandy bottoms and find their dinner; usually some local fish and crabs of all kinds.

They have a wingspan of about 4 feet and weigh between 3 to 4 pounds. Their wonderful pink color is caused by the metabolism of their food, so the pink shades change depending on the local menu.

They can usually be seen on the Island, or nearby wildlife preserves...Field Trip!
